I am so proud of Lincoln's flag.
In the 1930's there was a flag design contest for the city of Lincoln. Alta Mae Fieselson was selected as the winner of designing Lincoln's first flag and was awarded $50 and a picture in the paper. The judges appreciated that her flag recognized the University of Nebraska (represented by the red rotor), agriculture significance (wheat and corn), and the Nebraska State Capitol itself all on a field of blue symbolizing honor. Fieselson went on to be the president of the Lincoln Art Guild in 1951.

During the summer of 2021 the American Marketing Association and the Lincoln Young Professionals launched a contest for a new city flag. The Reflag Lincoln committee was formed and after several submissions and months of deliberation it was narrowed down to four finalists. Lincoln was given a week or two to vote and give feedback to any of the four finalists and the Reflag Lincoln committee took another month to count the votes and work with the winning artist on the public's feedback.

In January 2022, Ed Meija's "All Roads Lead to Lincoln" was announced the winner. Originally from El Salvador, Meija wanted to convey hope the feeling and sight he experienced when he first came to Lincoln and every moment he returns to his new home in his flag design. The art-deco style was inspired by the Nebraska State Capitol's native art and architecture. The white 8-pointed star in the center resembles the 8-pointed star in the center of the intersection of 13th and "O", the original center of Lincoln. If you'd like to learn even more about the flag I'd recommend visiting what the City of Lincoln has to share on it here.

Most recently Lincoln's flag won an online national competition. The 2022 Urban Life Signs North American City Flag Tournament had Columbia, SC in the finals with Lincoln pulling 55% of the 2.7k+ votes in the Twitter poll. The competition was hosted by a vexillologist based out of San Francisco.
