The Crossing Place - Smugglers Corner
Cache #177
The Crossing Place is a new 5.1 kilometre trail on Gateway Island near the Murray River. It is the site of the original crossing between the colonies of New South Wales and Victoria. Today there is a walking trail featuring sculptures by local First Nations artists. More information can be found - here. Hopefully a few caches will be placed here - we certainly enjoyed the walk the first time we did it.
At the posted coordinates there is a sign explaining Smugglers Corner. Read the sign (ignore the heading) and use the following to find the final cache.
S 36° 0(L4W5).(L2W2)(L3W20)(L1W10)'
E 146° 5(L1W3).(L4W6)(L2W1)(L3W17)'
Checksum S31 E36
GZ is only a short walk away near the structure referred to on the sign. Flooding might limit access here but the cache should stay dry. Signal may be a bit patchy under the trees.
The trail can be very busy so stealth will be required. Snakes may be present in summer. And depending how high the river is the site may not be accessible - please do not access the trail if flooded. Cattle also may be present around the walk as well.
Enjoy!
