We have had a remarkably warm February 2023. After a frigid first weekend, we are back in the 50s. So let's really go back to the 1950s for some "news" that happened in February.

All information needed to solve this puzzle is on this page.

1955 February 24 Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, was born.

1957 February 10 Laura Ingalls Wilder, who wrote the Little House on the Prairie series, died at age 90.

1952 February 20 Emmett Ashford becomes the first African-American umpire in organized baseball. He became an American League umpire in 1966.

1954 February 23 First mass inoculation against polio with the Jonas Salk vaccine takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

1955 February 12 President Eisenhower sends first United States advisors to South Vietnam.

1953 February 1 "You Are There" with Walter Cronkite premieres on CBS television

1951 February 27 22nd amendment to US Constitution ratified limiting US Presidents to 2 terms in office.

1952 February 6 Queen Elizabeth II succeeds King George VI to the British throne and is proclaimed Queen of the United Kingdom.

1959 February 22 Inaugural Daytona 500 won by Lee Petty.

1959 February 12 The Lincoln Memorial design on the U.S. penny goes into circulation on Lincoln's birthday. It replaces the "sheaves of wheat" design.

1956 February 24 Doris Day records her most famous song, "Que Sera, Sera".

1950 February 15 Disney’s "Cinderella" premieres in Boston.

1959 February 3 "The Day the Music Died" plane crash kills musicians Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, J. P. Richardson (aka The Big Bopper), and the pilot (Roger Peterson), near Clear Lake, Iowa.

I note that my finding the information for this puzzle is a great example of how artificial intelligence could search for more complex answers. It isn't an important purpose, but it's a good example. I needed to do more work that a program could have done more effectively. My biases are on display here although I tried to spread "what is interesting". I looked at multiple websites. If information isn't readily available online, it won't be included in search results.
