Hello! If you are reading this, you have either found or are planning to find this geocache. This geocache is one of several I put in for my Eagle Scout project. Along with being a fun experience, this geocache and the other ones I have put down are made to help educate you on the history of the geocaches site and its surrounding area. I hope you enjoy it.
The landmark is known as the Poplar Wildlife Sanctuary, and it borders the Old Tappan Reservoir. It was home to an Eagle Scout project. The original plan for the Wildlife Sanctuary was to remove the forest and replace it with 120 townhomes. This was met by opposition from people who wanted to save the forest. They raised $5,000,000 dollars to purchase the land to save it. Their efforts succeeded and in September 2002, the Poplar Wildlife Sanctuary was created.
Today, this 88-acre piece of land is home to birds, fish, deer, owls, hawks, and more. The Wildlife Sanctuary features a ⅔ mile trail for anyone to walk. This landmark remains a relatively obscure location in River Vale.
