A Little About Reverse Wherigo Adventures:
A reverse Wherigo does not give you the coordinates for the cache. It only tells you how far away the cache is from your current location. It does NOT tell you what direction to go in. You can start the Wherigo anywhere, so you might begin fairly close to the cache or 30 miles or more away from the cache. (I recently did one where I started the cartridge about 50 miles away from the final location). After you have traveled a little ways you can re-check your distance to see if you are getting closer or further away from the cache. After you check the distance you can adjust your direction of travel. Keep checking the distance until you are consistently getting closer. When you get close enough the cartridge will give you the final coordinates.
Some people like to see if they can minimize the number of distance checks. Theoretically, you should only need 3 queries to triangulate on the cache, but in practice you'll probably need many more. I never worry about that myself.
In order to run the cartridge for this specific Wherigo you need to have three 6-digit code numbers. If you have never done this before there is a detailed description of the procedures at the bottom of this page.
NOW THE IMPORTANT STUFF - THE 3 CODE NUMBERS
091392
410207
236587
It is a good idea to write these numbers down just in case you have to restart the program for any reason (dead batteries, crashed program, etc.),
FINAL NOTES:
- This is my first reverse Wherigo. If you encounter any problems let me know so I can try to figure out how to fix them.
- The instructions above are based on my Garmin 550 screens. I do not know if the phone apps are the same, but I would suspect that they are the same or similar.
- DO NOT include hints in your log about where and how you found the cache or post photos that would give away the final location.
- The hide is near a trail. Please keep it well hidden to avoid getting it taken by muggles.
Detailed Instruction For Using the Cartridge
When you start the cartridge you will be asked a short series of questions to get started.
- The first screen gives you a little information about the cartridge - just click on "PLAY" on the bottom of this screen.
- The next screen asks if you want to resume a saved game - click on "NO" here.
- Next it will ask what language you want to use - click on "ANSWER", then type in "EN" for English and click the check mark.
- Next you will select the units you want the distance to be shown in - select either meters or yards.
- The next screen describes what the Reverse Cache Box is and what it does. Read the screen and then click "OK".
- The next screen asks if you want to play or create a Reverse Wherigo - click on "PLAY".
Now comes a very important part of the set-up.
The Reverse Wherigo is a generic cartridge that works on many such caches worldwide. To identify this particular cache you must type in this code into your player. The instructions look daunting, but actually the set-up goes quickly and is pretty much just common sense things you need to do. Read the screen and then click "OK".
- This next screen shows 3 lines for the code numbers and a box marked "ANSWER" at the bottom. (Note: The 3 number code that you need is given below.) To begin click "ANSWER"
- Type in the first 6 digit number then click on the check mark.
- Repeat this for final 2 numbers.
- The next screen asked if they are right. click "RIGHT"
- The next screen is something you should read the first time you use this. The click on the appropriate button.
Now the set-up is complete and you are ready to start the journey.
At this point you should have a screen with 4 buttons. Three of the four are not used for anything. The only one you are interested in is the INVENTORY box which is titled "REVERSE CACHE BOX". CLICK ON THE "REVERSE CACHE BOX" button.
You have 3 options here. CLICK ON THE "REVERSE CACHE BOX" button on this screen.
It says that you need GPS signal and gives you a test button. CLICK ON THE "Test GPS Signal" button.
The next page gives you the OK to continue. CLICK ON THE "OK" button.
Once again CLICK ON THE "REVERSE CACHE BOX" button.
FINALLY, YOU CAN FIND OUT HOW FAR AWAY THE CACHE IS: CLICK ON THE "Display Distance" button.
The next screen shows the distance. Read the distance then CLICK ON THE "OK" button.
Continue following the screen directions to get subsequent distances. There is no limit on how many times you can check it. I like to check it fairly often until I am pretty sure that I am going in the right direction.
When you get close to the cache you can either just look for it or the program gives you a chance to get the final coordinates. Follow any instructions on the screen to get the final coordinates. (NOTE: This is an ammo box, so when you are close enough you may be able to find it without having the coordinates.)
