Take A Pew
Cache number 6 in our series of caches in and around the Hindhead area. We have hidden the cache in a small park where you can play ball games, walk your dog or even take the kids to the swings and park there.
Beacon Hill, while ecumenically and administratively part of Hindhead, is a discrete settlement with its own history, amenities and character. It lies in the southwest corner of Surrey on the A287 Hindhead Road between the towns of Haslemere and Farnham. The village began to be developed in the 19th century.
There are three churches, a primary school, a shopping area and a range of sporting facilities and activities in Beacon Hill.
Beacon Hill is so-named because it was originally one of many beacon sites across England. The area began to be settled in the 19th century when people who could afford it built houses there to take advantage of the clean environment. John Tyndall once declared the air to be as pure as that in the Swiss alps.
The Woodcock Inn served as Beacon Hill's only public house from the early 20th century until it closed in about 2008 and was subsequently demolished for housing.
The park is maintained and run excellently by Waverley Borough Council who gave their express permision for the cache to be hidden. GEOCACHING IS DONE AND UNDERTAKEN ENTIRLEY AT YOUR OWN RISK
