Geocache Description:

Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your hair!

The fairy tale Rapunzel has been evolved and altered for many years. First known as Petrosinella (which translates to parsley) is the first written record story that resembles Rapunzel, which was written in 1634.

Petrosinella was then developed by a French author (Charlotte-Rose de Caumont de la Force). The French author changed the classic storys name to Persinette. The fairy tale Persinette was published in 1689 'Les Contes des Contes'. The name Persinette means 'Little Parsley'. One may ask... why was that the name of the book? Why would someone name their child 'Little Parsley'?

Persinette was translated from French to German by Friedrich Schulz. After the translation it changed the character and plants name to Rapunzel. Interesting right?

By 1812 it was altered again by the Brothers Grimm. The two brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published 'Rapunzel' in their german collection of fairy tales called 'Children's and Household Tales'.

Fast forward to 1951 Film media:

In 1951 was the first stop-motion short created for Rapunzel titled 'The Story of Rapunzel' directed by Ray Harryhausen.

Aired on February 5th, 1983 was the first live action adaptation of Rapunzel. 'Rapunzel' is episode from the series called 'Faerie Tale Theater' (Season 2 Episode 1) created by Shelley Duvall.

Disney then featured Rapunzel in their 2014 movie 'Into the Woods' which is a remake of the musical 'Into the Woods by American Playhouse' made in 1991.

Lastly,  I will list one of my favorites Tangled which is a Disney movie based on Rapunzel. If you have not watched it yet you definitely watch.
