Happy St. Patricks' day!( almost) ☘️ ☘️ ☘️ ☘️ ☘️
We all heard the legend that St. Patrick banished snakes from Ireland. You might know he is the Patron saint of Ireland. You might even know he was credited with bringing christianity to Ireland. ☘️ ☘️
BUT here are a few facts you may not have known.
Did you know...
---St. Patrick's original name was likely Maewyn Succat...?
---St. Patrick was not even Irish? ( He was actually a Brit taken to Ireland as a slave)
--- The reason shamrocks are associated with St. Patrick is he used them to explain christianity and the holy trinity ( the 3 leaf kind anyway)? And Shamrocks were considered sacred. ☘️ ☘️ ☘️
---Corned beef and cabbage is an American creation?( the Irish ate ham and cabbage, But in the US the Irish were often poor and Corned beef was a cheap alternative.)
---The first St. Pat day parade in the US was held in 1601 in what would eventually become Florida.
--- St. Patrick and followers were associated with wearing blue. However Irish nationals switched to green ( symbolic of the flag.)
---The population of Ireland is less than 7 million.
---But over 30 million americans claim Irish heritage
