I've been a stargazer since I was a kid. My high school had its own planetarium, but I think I was hooked even before that. Maybe it was from the many hours of watching Star Trek (the original series, of course). Now I have a couple of telescopes and you can sometimes find me in the shadows of my backyard trying to see planets, comets, stars, constellations, nebulae, galaxies or other deep space objects. I love a good star chart and have even gone to Dolly Sods for a good view of the night sky. Up there, it is hard to pick out constellations because so many other stars are visible.
Now for the puzzle part of this cache. I have found that stars have interesting names, keep that in mind as your read the next paragraph about a couple friends of mine.
Talitha and Franz live in Formosa with their beloved husky, Fang and their pet raccoon, Ringo. Their home was near the Sun Moon Lake Peacock Garden and they were amateur astronomers. One day, they flipped through the local atlas and picked a new star viewing spot - the Hehuan Mountain Park, an international dark sky park. They ran to their car and headed out, playing their favorite celestial music along the way. When they arrived, they hiked to a quiet spot and turned their eyes to the sky. Galaxies and nebulae were difficult to distinguish amidst the myriad of stars, but the sky was amazing. They had fun in the park and when morning came, they traveled back home.
I wonder what stars they saw?
