Geocache Description:

This cache is in the Jean Lafitte National Park and Preserve.It is off of St.Berard Hwy.46-next to the Chalmette National Cemetery.It is the Chalmette Battlefield that you are looking for, the battlefield and the cemetery have two different entrances on the same st.

The cornerstone of this monument hornoring the American victory at New Olreans was laid in January 1840, within days after Andrew Jackson visited the field on the 25th anniverary of the battle.Not until 1855, however, did the State of Louisiana begin actual construction which was completed in 1908, a year after it ceded to the United States.

To claim this vitual cache you must e-mail me the answer to the questions: How many canons are still at this site, on the Rodriguez Canal? and What sysmbol is on the door of the monument?

***History Note*** Gen.Andrew Jackson's victory over British troops at Chalmette plantion On Janauary 8, 1815-was the greatest American land victory of the war of 1812, commonly called the Battle of New Orleans.

The battle of New Orleans lasted less than 2 hours, with the major fighting confined to about 30 mins. British casualties exceeded 2,000: the Americans only reported 13.
