The motto of Seminole County is "Florida's Natural Choice." Come find this cache and you'll understand exactly what that means. To adawgx and I, the most magnificent thing about Central Florida is the natural landscape and wild creatures which inhabit it. Here at the Econ River Wilderness Area, you'll experience Florida as it once was; no cars or buildings, lots of wildlife and humungous, plentiful trees towering high in the sky. We often think back to the days of Florida where there were no paved roads or large cities and how truly wild it would've been to live in the Florida of that time. We think that the Econ River Wilderness Area would be something like that. This 240-acre nature preserve, bordered on the east by the Econlahatchee River, is a testament to the Quintessential Florida.

The journey we'd recommend is following the red trail, which takes you through a tremendous canopy of oaks and sandhill habitats to find this cache. Once you've found it, you can continue onward to check out the Econlahatchee River. The view is absolutely breathtaking and well worth the visit. If you continue on from there, you'll eventually see a sign to go on to the yellow trail, which has vast palm and pine flatwoods. Round-trip, this should take around 2.7 miles and chances are, you'll see something awesome. It's worth noting that at times during the rainy season, this trail may get muddy, so be sure to wear some hiking boots or shoes that you wouldn't mind getting dirty. Also, be sure to pack water and plenty of sunscreen as parts of the trail can be sunny!
The cache you're looking for is a good old-fashioned ammo can. It's camoflauged well, and there's lots of room for swag and trackables. FTF will get their choice of swag and a 3D printed glow in the dark FTF coin designed by adawgx. On the way, you may see a hawk, millipede or maybe even a red-headed woodpecker (we've seen all of these and more here). Be sure to take some pics of the cool things you see and post them in the log, we'd love to see your adventures!
The Econ River Wilderness Area is only open from sunrise to sunset, so please be sure to abide by the park hours. We'd like to thank the Seminole County Natural Lands for helping us to get this geocaching permit approved under permit # GC-ER-23-01. Enjoy the beautiful nature and happy caching!
