Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches, called HistoryCache. These will explore different historical areas in Trafford, mostly in the Sale area. These will also all come with a WhatThreeWords code to try and make finding it easier!

This cache is by St Paul's Church. St Paul's Church was opened on 30th June 1883, for the district of Sale.

If you walk to the front of the church, you will see a Foundation Stone. This was laid by the wife of Williams Cunliffe Brooks, who was the son of banker Samuel Brooks who owned nearby Brooklands.

In 1910, the Church tower was built. The door to this tower was installed upside down, so whenever the door is opened, the person must turn the key upside down. Below is a picture of it in 1910.

On 22nd December 1940, at about 10:00PM, a bomb was dropped on the church. This took Sale Fire Crew four jets to put out. Some pews were damaged during this, and are still in use today.

The cache is placed by the entrance to the canal.
