Geocache Description:

29 April 2023, 09:00 - 12:00

We are are hosting another cemetery cleanup during RI Historic Cemetery weeks - a different place, yet just as hidden in plain sight as many of the others!

Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 9am-12pm - rain date Sunday, April 30 from 12pm-3pm
Notification will be made on the event page by Friday night if the event is rained out.

Despite its spot beside a strip mall,  few know this lot is there! We will be clearing minor brush, vines, and leaves, performing stone cleanup and tidying (possibly resetting) the stones if time allows. There are 21 burials here, dating back to the 1700s.

SC025 - COL CLEMENT SMITH LOT - description from RI Historical Cemeteries:
Located 600 feet north of Danielson Pike behind Tasca Field. James N Arnold recorded this lot 21 Aug 1904 (Vol 2, Pg 19) Between the Hartford Pike and a little north east of Moswansicut Pond a burial ground of the Smith and allied families, lot fenced in good condition, yard some neglected.
This cemetery was once part of an Eagle Scout project.
Helpful items to bring:

Drinking water

Alcohol gel (in case there is any poison ivy)

Snacks

Gloves

Knee pads

Sunscreen/hat

Hand tools like clippers, shovels, rakes, and saws - it's a great idea to mark these with your initials

Parking is in the northeast corner of the Village Plaza parking lot N 41° 50.225 W 71° 34.395 - go past the pharmacy, keeping the building on your left. Cemetery entrance is near the northeast corner and will be marked. Look for the red and white event sign.
