John L. Tompkins Park is a great location to have a picnic, let your children play, or just stay active. The park contains an 8000 sq. ft. outdoor concrete skatepark, two childrens' playgrounds, a basketball court, a bocce ball court, a soccer field, six workout stations, a walking track, and two shaded picnic areas. The park was named after a WWl fighter pilot who also in the 1940's acquired the 2000+ acres that is now known as South Padre Island.
