Geocache Description:

With the addition project of the new 110'x1200' chamber at Kentuck lock located mile 22.4 on the Tennesser river the old road and rail tracks have been relocated down stream with new bridges.Ky dam is a hydroelected dam build in the late 1930's and early 1940's it impounds 160,000 acres and larges of Tva reservoirs and larges artifical lake in the eastern United States.Hight of the dam is 206' & 8,422' long has 24 spillways and the lock chamber has a 75' lift.

In August 30th of 1944 Ky dam completed and the gates were closed  to hold back water.

September 14th of 1944 the first generator went online.

Ky lock and dam is located in the New Madrid seismic zone.and one of a few Tva dams built to withstand a major earthquake. In 2005 a local newspaper ran a story and experts suggested that a failure of the dam would propably occur in the earths levels at the end of the concrete portion of the dam.A subsequent release would start small and enlarge as water poured throught it.Water down stream  would slowly rise over 6 hours before flooding calvert city plants  and floodwater should only reach the base of the paducah flood wall.

Now you can still drive up and walk around the old way over the dam .nice walking paths and theres even a chain grate fence were many people have put locks of love.
