Join us at Virginia Beach's Museum of Contemporary Art on Saturday morning, April 8, 2023 at 10:30 am for a half hour Meet and Greet followed by an optional tour of their recently opened exhibit - "Kara Walker: Cut to the Quick."
A leading artist of her generation, Kara Walker works in a range of mediums, including sculpture, prints, drawings, paintings, film, and large scale silhouette cutouts. The exhibition offers a broad overview of her career through more than 80 works. Her powerful and provocative images employ contradictions to critique the painful legacies of slavery, sexism, violence, imperialism, and other power structures. Walker's process involves extensive research in history, literature, art, history and popular culture. The works can be disturbing while also utilizing satire and humor.
The optional tour will be conducted by Gayle Nickols, who is a docent at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) as well as at the Chrysler Museum.
MOCa is located at 2200 Parks Ave, Virginia Beach near where I-264 becomes 21st Street. Turn left at the stoplight onto Parks Ave. Cross 22nd Street into the Museum Parking Lot.
