Back when I was a graduate student at DU, this pole inspired a poem I wrote for one of my classes. I thought I'd commemorate the inspiration with a cache!
Greater Reason
Did you know that every electric pole has an address; every streetlight has a number? These objects are planned, in their right place, always on time. Without a number, they wouldn’t exist. Their splinters don’t get numbers. Could you imagine such chaos?
I don’t know how many socks I own. It is June 4th, so it’s time to count. But I haven’t decided how. As I walk home, I look at my electric pole instead. It is addressed 1865. It’s not my place to touch. I don’t want a splinter. And their splinters don’t get numbers. — I wouldn’t dare make an unnumbered electric pole in my hand.
I’ve started counting.
Do the socks with holes get whole numbers?
Congratulations to Mammavan2all for the FTF!
