Parke Roi Rincon is a nature reserve near Hato airport and one of the best hiking spots on the island. It holds the earliest traces of human presence on the island, with archaeological finds as early as 2500 BC. The trail will take you across varied terrain, to beautiful lookout points, interesting landmarks, and even through a cave.
The hike to the cave is about 20 minutes. The full hike takes about an hour but can be shortened or extended due to various junctions. All the trails in the park are marked by yellow painted rocks. You'll find the trailhead near the parking spot. Head up the rocks to the higher limestone terrace. At "Mirador Hato", take the trail down and head to the cave.
The cave is about 20m / 70ft long and has a high ceiling and is home to a group of bats. An opening in the roof creates mesmerizing lighting and allows you to see the bats flying high up in the cave.
The cache is located on the ground near the center of the cave.
There's a path leading above and one below the cave, making it possible to miss the entrance. Where the 3 paths join, there's a large fallen tree that blocks the upper path. From this tree, you can easily find the cave exit and enter from that side.
