***** Cache highly recommended after sunset *****
🦇 This is the Rosedale Road bridge. Locals know it as "Bat Bridge".Â
🦇 A colony of grey headed flying foxes live in the trees here and are protected in the Ku-Ring-Gai Flying Fox Reserve of Stony Creek.Â
🦇 Every night from 20 minutes after sunset, they leave their day camp and start their nocturnal journey to forage for food.Â
🦇 They are currently listed as a vulnerable species as their population dwindles. They have such an important role for our ecosystem as pollinators over long distances. The preservation of their habitat is paramount to their survival.
🦇 During winter they migrate to northern NSW and south east Queensland, returning back when the weather is warm.Â
🦇 Usually the middle of winter is when you won't see more than none to a few dozen compared to the 40 000 in warmer months.Â

🦇 Enjoy the night show here as the bats fly out overhead. 🦇

🦇 Take care removing cache from its hide......it's a long way down to the creek.Â
🦇 It can be found at any time of day, but the main highlight is to view the bats and share their plight for conservation.Â
🦇 Park at either Minns Rd or Glenview Street then walk to the pedestrian pathway of the bridge.Â
