I Called Dad at 11 when I was on a trip up north as my eye was hurting. When I got back he took me to the doctors and they said I had something weird, trichiasis without entropion, I guess I should have been glad I didn't have entropion but these were big words for an 11 year old. The simple answer was my eyelashes were growing inwards to my eye and I got a prescription. Free for me as a kid!
I didn't have any issues till I was at uni and one day it all went West and my eye was very irritated, I went back for a prescription but this time she said I had episcleritis, which should resolve but got some artificial tears. Hadn't realised I would have to pay for this prescription. However, I should be glad I didn't need to pay for anything else, because who knows how much they got for treating these conditions and I am just glad it wasn't directly out of my pocket!
