江戸時代、この坂の南側に仙台藩の品川下屋敷があったことから、この坂は仙台坂と呼ばれていました。
向かい側にある立派な木は、下屋敷の裏玄関に植えられていたと言われる樹齢300余年の「仙台坂のタブノキ（品川区指定天然記念物）」が現在でも威風堂々と鎮座しています。

During the Edo period, this slope was called Sendai-zaka because the Shinagawa suburban residence of the Sendai clan was located on the south side of this slope.
The splendid tree on the opposite side is the 300-year-old "Sendai-zaka Tabunoki" (Natural Monument designated by Shinagawa Ward), which is said to have been planted at the back entrance of the Shimoyashiki, and still stands majestically today.
