Geo-Hobbies Event Red Bank Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ericles: Time to close this one down. 22 attendees for a curb-site event isn't bad at all! Thanks to all who came out and celebrated our geek hobbies. I'll have to add pork-roll to the list. [^]

Geocache Description:

19 November 2023, 13:00 - 13:30

Just a short meet and greet to celebrate all of the great hobbies - especially Geocaching!

When: Sunday November 19th 2023 from 1:00 to 1:30 PM or later if the weather is fine.
Where: Downtown Red Bank, NJ
Why: Because we all had hobbies before Geocaching.

Before Geocaching I enjoyed rides on my bike and runs in the woods... and comic books... and video games. On a computer, on a console or in an arcade I was a happy guy. I've had other hobbies over the years to be sure but it was on pinball games that I honed my manual dexterity to the point where I could re-roll a nano log with one hand while looking up the next closest cache on my GPSr with the other hand. I was never a pinball wizard but on a few games I did manage a high score. Over the years I've talked with other cachers at events and learned of their past hobbies. These including hiking, racing, gun/stamp/coin collecting, ham radio, ballroom dancing, 3D printing, caving, SCUBA diving, card/board games, metal detecting, blogging, geology, bench-marking, dog-walking, mountain biking, velodroming, fishing, surf-casting, gardening, bee keeping, hunting, MMA, social-distancing, cryptography, sailing, woodworking, train-spotting, piloting blimps, piloting tanks, running, curling, rovering, wheeling, wrenching, lighthouses, model airplanes, RC vehicles, drones, marathons, ultra-marathons, tree-climbing, rappelling, sports, bird-watching, kayaking/canoeing, RVing, comic-books, conventions, scouting, theater, playing music, following bands, volunteering, craft brews/brewing, rock-climbing/bouldering, fur-suits, siren/elevator/escalator filming, IRC, croquet, videography and one hundred others I can't remember right now.

Of course, Geocaching has some side-hobbies too - like puzzle solving, challenges, find-streaks, CITOs, GIFF movies and event hosting/attending. I'd like to know more! Bring your stories of your hobbies and how they have integrated into your geocaching adventures. Stop by to sign the venerable CJG logbook and bring any trackables you would like to trade. If your GPS receiver doesn't like the urban setting, look for us between the Arcade and the Comic Book store in Red Bank, NJ.

The event will be held rain or shine but may move across the street in the event of rain plops. Parking is free on Sundays in Red Bank.

While you are here, why not enjoy the resurgent town of Red Bank? Refreshments are available nearby & a few caches & adventure labs too of course. Hope to see you there!
