This is a great spot along the shoreline and San Francisco Bay Trail and a popular area with birders. This is part of a rainy-day cache series I am putting out ... the bay views can be wonderfully dramatic on rainy days, and the close parking makes it likely to be an easy park and grab on days when not as many people are out and about. Cache maintenance also means the CO has to get out even in the rain.
The SF Bay Trail connects the GZ with caches up and down the shoreline, extending from Emeryville to Ricmond.
Accessibility: The cache is along a flat, paved trail. Requires reaching and grasping. There are a few blue-placard parking spots in the main parking lot and also to the east on the side of the road.
Restrooms: Park restrooms are close by. (no running water)
Transportation:
- This is along the mutlimodal San Francisco Bay Trail, with easy walking or biking access.
- At the time this cache is placed, I don't think any AC Transit bus lines go to the bulb.
- There is nearby parking, but be aware that on weekends in nice weather it frequently fills up from the shoreline to the highway. (The giant fenced off parking lots are for the racetrack and not open to the public)
- Don't be fooled by online maps: you can't drive along the shoreline from Gilman to Buchanan: there is a private parking lot in between with restricted access. You can use the SF Bay Trail to get between the two by foot, bike, or wheelchair.
