This is our first ever Cache and we hope you enjoy it :). Inspired by our previous adventures at this reserve.
The pristine 24 hectare bushveld nature reserve (Rietfontein) stretches over a rocky ridge and forms part of the green belt that runs all the way to Kyalami in the north. It has a 1km/2.5km hiking trail and an area for picnics.
this unique area is home to a large variety of birds, nature aswell as some grazing animals like duiker and Reedbuck.
Some of the species you may see include little swifts, Cape glossy starlings, sacred ibis, southern masked weavers, rock pigeons, black-collared barbets, Cape robin-chats, mousebirds, greater-striped swallows, fiscal flycatchers and many more.
You are also likely to spot a number of buck roaming in the hills if you are quiet enough. The quartzite koppie is also home to grey loeries who seem to enjoy it as their centrepiece.
The entrance to the reserve is free, the guards might ask you to fill out a form where you will need to input you name, cellphone number etc. You may also bring some hiking shoes if you are willing to go on the trail which will give you some jaw dropping views and experiences. Also bring the family along!
