Geocache Description:

This is one of the caches available on the Wayne County Bicentennial trail!  The purpose of this project is to highlight local Wayne County History and share geocaching with folks that may know nothing about it!  Your job is to go find this cache and open it and record your name on the log paper inside.  You can also trade items that are in the geocache with items of your own if you want.  Then put it back in place for the next visitor!  Permission has been given to place a cache here.  You are looking for a plastic storage container.

If you're participating in the Bicentennial Passport program, please punch the correct area on the passport for this geocache and leave the punch in the cache container.  You can get a paper passport at the public libraries in Wayne County or download it at www.waynecounty200.com

The Passport Program is planned to start around May 1st and go to November 1st.

The original building:

Current Building:

The Christian Church was organized in 1820 and built a stone building, 36' x 40' in Upper Corners in 1832.  In 1856 they built a frame building in the village, 40' x 60', with a large front porch, using stones from the old building for the foundation. In 1904, stained glass windows were installed and the front porch was enclosed. In 1906 as the sexton was lowering the chandelier to light the lamps, the ropes broke and the chandelier fell to the floor spilling kerosene over the carpet and staining the chairs. Luckily, no fire started.

The church closed in 1913. The building was then purchased by an anonymous donor who offered the building to the Masons for free as long as the Order of Eastern Star members were allowed to meet there.
