I primi Religiosi Salesiani sono giunti a Trieste nell’ottobre del 1898 per interessamento del preposito capitolare Francesco Petronio e di don Ugo Mioni. Inseriti nel tessuto popolare della zona di Chiarbola Superiore, ai margini della parrocchia di S. Giacomo, hanno iniziato immediatamente il lavoro apostolico in favore della gioventù aprendo l’oratorio nel 1899, e, più ampiamente, in favore dei fedeli del territorio. Il 6 giugno del 1909 è stata benedetta dal vescovo Francesco Saverio Nagl la prima pietra del nuovo luogo di culto e nell’anno successivo è stata aperta la chiesa inferiore. Conclusi i lavori dell’intera costruzione, progettata dall’arch. Cornelio Budinich, anche la chiesa superiore è stata aperta al culto e benedetta dal secondo successore di don Bosco, sac. Paolo Albera, assistito dal vescovo Andrea Karlin, il 28 maggio del 1911. È stata dedicata a Maria SS. Ausiliatrice. È divenuta sede della parrocchia quando questa, dal titolo di S. Giovanni Bosco, è stata eretta il 31 gennaio del 1940 con territorio dismembrato dalla parrocchia di S. Giacomo. Riconosciuta civilmente con decreto di data 20 novembre del 1942, ha iniziato l’attività indipendente il 31 ottobre del 1943. I libri parrocchiali datano dall’ottobre del 1943. La parrocchia religiosa è affidata ad nutum Sanctæ Sedis all’Ispettoria Veneta della Società Salesiana, dal 2003 Ispettoria Salesiana San Marco, Italia-Nord-Est .

The first Salesian Religious arrived in Trieste in October 1898 through the interest of chapter provost Francesco Petronio and Fr. Ugo Mioni. Inserted in the popular fabric of the area of Chiarbola Superiore, on the edge of the parish of S. Giacomo, they immediately began apostolic work in favor of youth by opening the oratory in 1899, and, more widely, in favor of the faithful of the area. On June 6, 1909, the foundation stone of the new place of worship was blessed by Bishop Francis Xavier Nagl, and in the following year the lower church was opened. Work on the entire construction, designed by architect. Cornelio Budinich, the upper church was also opened for worship and blessed by Don Bosco's second successor, Sac.
