Community Farming
When – Thursday 3rd August 2023, 1pm to 2pm
Where – Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes
What – Help pick the produce in the local community garden, which supports local food charities. If thats not your thing, grab a litter picker and a bag and help tidy up the local area of rubbish.
Why - Bradwell Abbey is the site and remains of a medieval Benedictine Priory and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument (no.19062). Nationally it is significant because it contains the greater part of the medieval precinct of a priory, a relatively unusual survival, with a rare standing building - a dedicated pilgrimage chapel with a scheme of stunning contemporary wall paintings.
In pursuit of its charitable objectives, MKCDC undertakes activities in four main areas:
-
Educational programmes and activities to support all levels of learning in urban studies and the sustainable city
-
Educational programmes and activities to support learning in heritage studies
-
An archive, library and image library which provides access to resources about the development of Milton Keynes as a new town, the history of settlement in the area and the history of Bradwell Abbey
-
In collaboration with the Milton Keynes Council (the site owners) to manage and maintain the Bradwell Abbey site for the benefit of the Milton Keynes community (this function includes providing meeting and administrative space for community groups)
The Community Garden is one of the projects that the site manages and we'll be helping it by picking vegetables, weeding, tidying and generally an opportunity for a CITO with a difference as part of mega:MK's week of CITOs as part of our programme.
