Razing expectations requires a willingness to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from failures. (In the case of an urban village in Huangpu it might be flipped to refer to expectations of razing.) It can be liberating but also daunting.
The cluster of warehouses, light factory buildings and urban village style multilevel housing immediately north of the cache was razed in 2019 and 2020; a common experience of the older housing and industrial stock around Nangang. The urban village cluster immediately to the west clings on, along with some houseboats near the cache, but surely their days are numbered.
What will take shape on the cleared land and replace the demolished factories, warehouses and urban villages? The designers will hopefully think of new and innovative ways for people to access and experience the blueway.
