Geocache Description:

11 June 2023, 18:00 - 18:45

Over the last decade or so, each June has marked the Return of the Geeks, a special time that brings lovers of Statistics, Mathematics, and other related disciplines to Kansas City, where we dutifully and carefully read and score student responses to the College Board's AP Statistics exam as well as others. And each June, the most wonderful group of local geocachers, those from Kansas City, have welcomed us to share our love of geocaching with one another.

I am sad to announce that Kevin A.K.A. CaptainMath will not be with us at the event as he is no longer an AP Reader, but instead is enjoying life as a professional retiree while geocaching across the country.  I attended my first Meet the Geeks event last summer as an AP Reader, so I look forward to working with anyone interested in making this event a success.

Much of this credit goes to KC's own OrigamiFolder, one of the most creative and helpful geocachers around. And thanks to these introductions to the City of Fountains and the Game of Geo-geeks, many visitors to this city have left with a highly favorable opinion of this city and their work here. Very many AP readers have since become regular, geocaching enthusiasts, and have brought the game back to their hometowns.

But in 2020, as you all know, a highly transmissable virus changed our world, and while the work went on, AP readers had to do the work from home, and that's how AP exams were scored for 2020 and 2021. We the Geeks, are returning to our second-home. And it's time to revisit our passion for our work in-person and for our stay in Kansas City.

And so, we issue this invitation to all local geocachers, and also to all AP Readers who can make this event at 6:00 - 6:45pm: Come and join us for a fun meet-and-greet in Barney Allis Plaza that will introduce you to this game, its devotees, and to the city. Never geocached before? No worries!

How to participate - if you have a geocaching account, log a Will-Attend on this event in advance. If you don't yet have an account, don't worry - just show up at the time of the event and you'll have no trouble finding the group. Let's have some fun together getting to know our favorite home-away-from-home.
