Bute Community Forest Geocache
This cache gets it's name from the Oak trees that make up this woodland. This is an ancient woodland which means it has been a woodland for a minimum of 300 years and was once recognises as a royal wood.
Oak trees are slow growing and don't start producing acorns until they are at least 50 years old! The oldest oak tree in Scotland is around 600 years old but most of these oak you see around you are probably only about 130-150 years old, still only teenagers in Oak tree years!
