Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Virginia State Parks Travel Bug Hotel Adventure. Each participating state park has a unique cache for this series.

Participating Parks: Douthat, Machicomoco, Seven Bends, Natural Tunnel, Occoneechee, Chippokes, and Bear Creek Lake State Parks. Find all the participating VSP Travel Bug Hotels to earn a trackable Green Darner Dragonfly Geocoin. Green Darners are one of North America’s largest dragonflies. They feed on any insect smaller than they are. While their destination remains a mystery, green darners migrate in swarms so large and dense they show up on radar. They are true travel bugs!

Coins will be available while supplies last.

This cache is a specially themed hotel  and will contain a logbook, pencil and some small trade items. Most parks require a small parking fee while geocaching. For more information go to: http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/parkfees.shtml

You are looking for a bird house, but you won't find space for any birds inside. Also known as "The Bug Shack", this cache is for bugs only; travel bugs, that is. You might be scratching your head trying to figure out how it opens, but don't let it get you down. There's a comfy place to nestle or just hang inside. Please be sure the cache is securely fastened after your visit.

When caching in Virginia State Parks; please stay on marked trails when possible, park in designated parking areas ONLY, always observe CITO and Leave No Trace practices & most of all - take time to enjoy & explore your natural and historical surroundings!

The cache is located within Bear Creek Lake State Park which opened as a recreation area in a rejuvinating forest in 1940. It has been a Virginia State Park since 1963.

Be sure to log your travel bugs check-in and check-out through geocaching.com.
