Farthing Downs is one of six commons in the south of the London Boroughs of Croydon and Bromley which is under the care of the Corporation of London and protected by specific legislation of 1878 which was produced in response to concern at the rapid disappearance of open spaces around London.
There are some scheduled ancient monuments, containing Anglo Saxon remains - so please do not do any digging here. The cache is not buried so you do not need to. The cache itself is a green ammo box.
There are some good views of the Surrey countryside to be had of the chalk downland, also famous for its skylarks, glow-worms and outsize snails.
Cattle graze on the downland, so watch where you tread (mind the cow pats) but please also take care when driving and make sure to shut the gate behind you.
