PALACE OF MOS
An old Roman road ran through this area of Mos that connected Bracara Augusta with Tui and Santiago. This place is also a passage for pilgrims who walk to Santiago de Compostela. At the foot of this avenue, next to the Church of Santa Baia de Mos, this palace was built in the 18th century (1710-20) to house the Marquis family. Here they lived until a fire and the French invaders destroyed it almost completely. After a long period of neglect and ruin, the Mos mansion was rebuilt in the first decade of the 21st century and today it is used for various neighborhood and municipal events.
This palace is characterized by extraordinary solidity and a robust and severe appearance. Its Renaissance structure is made up of three floors where the three carved granite balconies stand out and the two fireplaces finished in Herrerian-style spheres. Of particular note is the coat of arms of the House of Mos, which in the 19th century gave rise to the current municipal emblem.
The place where the palace is located has adapted to its surroundings: a natural leisure space located in the center of the Santa Eulalia de Mos parish, which includes, in addition to the Marqueses Palace, the Church and the pilgrims' hostel. It has large squares both in front of and behind the Palace and an amphitheater with stands and a concert area, and a large garden area, with different plant species, paths, orchards, geometric gardens... and a playground for the little ones to enjoy.
