The new Bank tube station entrance has opened between Monument and Cannon Street stations. Around the corner is a public courtyard perfect for the SideTracked event on Friday, 12th May 2023 from 5.30pm for an hour.
With three different stations closer together than the permitted distances of physical caches of 528ft/161m this SideTracked includes all three! The event takes place at Abchurch Yard where the historic church stands and bars and cafes overlook.
The new Bank station entrance opened on the 27th February 2023 making the complex underground station slightly easier to negotiate around. It also created step free access to the Underground lines and DLR.
This location is rich in railway history - Cannon Street station got the first foothold in the south of the City when it opened in 1866. Briefly a tube station opened in 1890 at King William street but was replaced with the present Bank station on the northern line in 1900. At the same time the Waterloo and City line opened at Bank and so too the Central line. The escalator link to Monument station came in 1930 and much later the DLR. All these railways knitted themselves to Bank station creating a vast network of passageways and tunnels. Monument station, also on Cannon Street, open in 1884 by the District Railway.
Everyone are invited to this event for a geochat and feel free to exchange Trackables. Don't get lost on your way inside Bank station!
