Totally Findable Tourist Caches
Welcome to Sydney
This series of geocaches is designed primarily with visitors to Sydney in mind who may have limited time and transport options and want a quick and easy find while out enjoying some sightseeing around this beautiful city.
All cache containers will be one of three types; a flat magnetic key case (MKC), a round film canister (FC or MFC for magnetic) or a fake rock (FR).
As always with city caching, the surrounding structures can affect GPS accuracy. If in doubt, use the hint however be mindful that the hint will indicate the type of container used and will be very specific to help you find the cache easily. If you want a challenge to find this cache and don't wish to know exactly where it's hidden, do not look at the hint.
At each location you’ll be given some information about the site you are visiting. I hope you find this information enlightening.

Sir Edward John Lees Halstrom

Sir Edward John Lees Hallstrom (25 September 1886 – 27 February 1970) was one of Australia’s best-known philanthropists, zoological park administrator and businessmen of the mid-20th century.
Hallstrom revolutionised food storage, particularly in the outback of Australia, with his kerosene powered refrigerator which was diversified to Silent Knight upright models which ran on gas or electricity.
His love for animals steered him towards philanthropy where he helped establish Sydney's Taronga Park Zoo, developing techniques for breeding many rare animals, despite never training in zoology. With the proceeds of the sale of five hundred kerosene refrigerators in Africa in 1937, he bought two rhinoceroses which he presented to the Taronga Zoological Park Trust. These were the first of many gifts.
He personally funded the purchase of many large and exotic species from overseas and established a farm at Mona Vale, a suburb on Sydney's northern beaches, to produce fresh food for the zoo animals.
Sir Edward spent time visiting many zoos and museums in America and Europe, presenting four American zoos with rare birds from New Guinea, where he founded a Bird of Paradise Sanctuary and established an experimental sheep-breeding station.
He became Chairman of the zoo's trust and was its honorary life director for many years. He was eventually knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1952.
At the time of his death, his gifts to charity and the community were estimated to exceed $4 million, a huge amount of money in those days.
The number plate on his Rolls Royce was ZO 000.
Thanks to the work of Edward Halstrom, many Sydney-siders, interstate visitors and overseas guests are able to experience one of the top-class zoos of the world.
