Cheng Ching Lake is an urban reservoir with parkland, walking trails, picnic spots, historic sites, decorative structures, and even an aquarium.
This geocache is placed near a display of information about water use, at a picnic spot. A breeze from the water sometimes relieves the heat. Not far from the cache site the wind can make bamboo stems creak and moan.
Bottled drinks in vending machines and a restroom are available less than 250 m away. Parking is 100 m away.
Cheng Ching Lake charges no admission fee for residents of Kaohsiung with their identity card. Otherwise 100 NT per person, 50 NT for elderly, 50 NT for students, 60/100 NT for cars (there is a discount for cars on weekdays), and 30 NT for scooters.
No swimming. No fishing. No pets.
Cheng Ching Lake can get crowded, especially on weekends. On my weekday morning visits I have seen fewer muggles.
Bus 70A from KMRT Weiwuwing Station (Orange 10--Take exit 2) stops at the main entrance to Chengching Lake.
Buses 24, 24A, 8502, and Yucheng 36 from KMRT Kaohsiung Arena Station (Red 14--Take exit 2) go most of the way to the north entrance to Chengching Lake. You must walk the last 1.25 km.
YouBikes are stationed near both entrances and elsewhere. (Bikes are not allowed the last 100 meters to GZ.)
I love this place.
