Questa casa cinquecentesca indistinguibile dalle circostanti è stata in realtà teatro di grandi scoperte scientifiche. Si tratta infatti dell'abitazione in cui l'inventore della scienza moderna Galileo Galilei abitò negli ultimi anni della sua permanenza padovana, dal 1602 al 1610. Il grande edificio aveva molte stanze che, come accade anche oggi qui a Padova, erano in gran parte affittate agli studenti. Con i proventi degli affitti Galileo finanziava le sue ricerche e assemblava nuovi strumenti, tra cui quello che lo rese celebre: il cannocchiale. Pare infatti che fu proprio in questa casa che lo Scienziato perfezionò i prototipi giunti dall'Olanda, ideati inizialmente per scopi militari. La casa ha un ampio giardino affacciato sull'Odeo Cornaro: qui Galileo coltivava viti e osservava il cielo, per la prima volta con occhio da scienziato. Da Wikipedia: "Da qui nel marzo del 1610 osservò per primo la superficie rugosa della Luna, che non venne più considerata liscia e perfetta come secondo la concezione aristotelica. [...] Sempre da questa casa, Galileo scoprì nella notte tra il 9 e il 10 gennaio 1610 quattro "stelline, piccole invero ma pur lucentissime" (definite così nel Sidereus Nuncius) rotanti attorno al pianeta Giove. Questa osservazione gli permise di ipotizzare che la Luna ruotasse attorno alla Terra esattamente come quelle “stelle” ruotano attorno al pianeta rosso."
L'edificio è ancora una casa privata e purtroppo non è visitabile: è possibile riconoscerla solo grazie ad una targa posta all'esterno.

This sixteenth-century house, indistinguishable from the surrounding ones, was actually the scene of great scientific discoveries. It is in fact the house where the inventor of modern science Galileo Galilei lived in the last years of his stay in Padua, from 1602 to 1610. The large building had many rooms which, as it happens today here in Padua, were mostly rented to students. With the proceeds from the rents Galileo financed his research and assembled new instruments, including the one that made him famous: the telescope. In fact, it seems that it was in this house that the Scientist perfected the prototypes that arrived from Holland, initially designed for military purposes. The house has a large garden overlooking the Odeo Cornaro: here Galileo cultivated vines and observed the sky, for the first time with the eye of a scientist. From Wikipedia: "From here in March 1610 he was the first to observe the rough surface of the Moon, which was no longer considered smooth and perfect as according to the Aristotelian conception. [...] Also from this house, Galileo discovered in the night between 9 and on January 10, 1610 four "small stars, indeed small but still very bright" (so defined in the Sidereus Nuncius) revolving around the planet Jupiter. This observation allowed him to hypothesize that the Moon revolved around the Earth exactly as those "stars" revolve around the red planet."
The building is still a private house and unfortunately cannot be visited: it is possible to recognize it only thanks to a plaque placed outside.
