The Church:
St Mary's, Bryanston Square, also referred to as St Mary's London, is a Grade I listed church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built between 1823 and 1824 from a design by Robert Smirke. It is a brick building, with a rounded stone portico, round tower and small dome, topped by a cross. It cost £19,955 to build, of which some £14,955 came from a grant on behalf of the Church Building Commission
More recently, it appeared as St Jude's Church in the film Last Christmas. On 29th April 2023, it will/has hosted London Calling 2023 - the second geocaching Mega event to take place in London, and the biggest so far.
The cache:
This geocache is a multi, which is a type of geocache which requires you to visit more than one location in order to receive clues to find out where the physical container is hidden. With this geocache, there are four locations you must visit, all of which are fairly close together. By collecting numbers at these locations you can work out where to look for the cache.
Starting coordinates: N 51° 31.211 W 000° 09.704
Question 1: Look for the circular stone plaque (look up!). There are four digits, read these as ABCD.
Waypoint 2: N 51 31.196 W 0 9.690
Question 2: Look up at the plaque for the Western National School. Read the final two digits as EF.
Waypoint 3: N 51 31.180 W 0 9.708
Question 3: Count the number of round columns supporting the portico. This is G.
Waypoint 4: N 51 31.171 W 0 9.683
Question 4: Look for the stone plaque about the Parish Hall of St Mary's. Read the final number as H.
Final: N 51 (E+A)(D-A).AH(H-E) W 0 C.H(C-B)(F-A)
If found on the London Calling Mega day itself, please just log with an initial and without a date on the logbook itself - this will leave more room for other finds.
