Play Ball!
Bring your TOTT, a pen and all the stealth you can muster as this a very busy area in the spring, summer and fall. You will be standing across the street from the entrance into Lonnie Lee Crampton Memorial Ballpark, a man that loved baseball, but passed away at an early age of 46 in 1993. Don't get cornered in when parking or worry about rounding the corner as you leave but you will need be at the corner to find this indeed! This can be a simple park and grab, but that's all up to you and the many Muggles you may see.
Recipe to Enjoy:
Chilled Summer Salad:
This is a wonderfully easy to prepare fresh summer salad that takes the heat out of those oppressive
summer days. I like to make this in a large batch and serve inside a frozen bowl. To make a frozen
bowl, you take a large bowl, fill with water and place a smaller bowl inside and add weight to hold
the bowl in place allowing an inch or so of water between the bowls. Place in freezer and chill
overnight.
Once the bowl is frozen, carefully remove from freezer and sit on counter for 5 minutes to allow it to
temper. Then remove bowls and place-frozen bowl on platter and fill with fruit and drizzle with
dressing or wine and serve.
I also love mandarin oranges but you can substitute fresh orange sections if you wish. In addition
you can use the fresh salad dressing or offer an adult version by drizzling some blush zinfandel or
semi sweet white over the fruit.
Ingredients:
2 cups drained mandarin oranges
2 cups seedless green and red grapes
2 cups fresh cut pineapple chunks
2 cups diced green apples, mixed with cut pineapple to stop browning
2 cups sliced strawberries
2 cups blackberries
Gently combine all ingredients in a large bowl and set aside in fridge.
Dressing:
2 ounces honey
1-ounce fresh lemon juice
3 ounces orange juice
2 ounces pineapple juice
2 ounces Blood Orange EVOO
Combine in mixing jar and shake to combine, place in fridge
Procedure:
At time of service, place-frozen bowl on platter, secure with towel or greens around bowl and add in
fruit. Shake dressing in mixing jar and drizzle over fruit or drizzle ½-1 cup of wine in place of
dressing.
Add in a few sprigs of fresh mint for decoration and serve up some summer fun!
