Parque Ecológico do Funchal
O Parque Ecológico do Funchal foi instituído em 1994, numa iniciativa da Câmara Municipal do Funchal. Está localizado a 12 km do Funchal e encontra-se numa zona montanhosa numa extensão de aproximadamente 10km2, que varia entre os 470 e os 1818 metros de altitude.
Os seus principais objetivos são a conservação da natureza, a promoção da educação ambiental e a disponibilização de infraestruturas para o recreio e lazer dos visitantes.
Existe um Centro de Receção, em fase de remodelação, responsável pela dinamização das atividades do Parque e cuja conservação e recuperação da natureza conta com o envolvimento de diversas comunidades escolares, empresas e da população em geral, em especial no processo de reflorestação.
No Parque encontra também um viveiro visitável de plantas indígenas e endémicas, onde são produzidas as plantas destinadas à reflorestação.
Ainda é possível encontrarmos um reservatório que no passado serviu para armazenar neve e granizo, o Poço da Neve, património cultural madeirense e cuja aparência lembra um iglo de esquimós. O gelo aqui guardado tinha como destino os hotéis e hospitais, numa época em que este era um bem raro.
O CITO
Neste Cito, a tarefa é retirar de uma sementeira comum e distribuir por espaços individuais algumas plantas ainda muito pequenas (2 a 5 cm). Essas plantas serão numa fase posterior colocadas em recipientes maiores e assim sucessivamente até chegarem ao solo definitivo onde serão destinadas à reflorestação.
Como complemento e condimento motivacional, todos os que estiverem presentes, ganham um SOUVENIR da 1ª temporada CITO 2023, atribuído pelo Geocaching.

Funchal Ecological Park
The Ecological Park of Funchal was established in 1994, in an initiative of the Municipality of Funchal. It is located 12 km from Funchal and is located in a mountainous area covering an area of approximately 10km2, which varies between 470 and 1818 meters in altitude.
Its main objectives are the conservation of nature, the promotion of environmental education and the provision of infrastructure for recreation and leisure for visitors.
There is a Reception Centre, currently being renovated, which is responsible for boosting the Park's activities and whose conservation and recovery of nature involves various school communities, companies and the population in general, especially in the reforestation process.
In the Park you will also find a visitable nursery of indigenous and endemic plants, where plants intended for reforestation are produced.
It is still possible to find a reservoir that in the past served to store snow and hail, the Poço da Neve, Madeiran cultural heritage and whose appearance resembles an Eskimo igloo. The ice stored here was destined for hotels and hospitals, at a time when this was a rare commodity.
THE "CITO"
In this Cito, the task is to remove some very small plants (2 to 5 cm) from a common seedbed and distribute them into individual spaces. At a later stage, these plants will be placed in larger containers and so on until they reach the final soil where they will be destined for reforestation.
As a complement and motivational condiment, all those present will receive a SOUVENIR from the 1st CITO 2023 season, awarded by Geocaching.
