Dit is de eerste geocache van het hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard. In 1273 legde graaf Floris V de oprichting van het hoogheemraadschap vast. Waterschappen zijn de eerste democratische besturen van Nederland. Zij hebben het landschap en deels ook de cultuur mede gevormd. In Nederland is het hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard het op een na oudste waterschap (na Rijnland).
Je staat hier bij gemaal Schilthuis. Een gemaal gebruiken we om de hoogte van het water te regelen in een bepaald gebied. Wist je dat we hier per minuut zo’n 1.300.000 liter water uit de Rotte naar de Nieuwe Maas kunnen pompen? Dat zijn meer dan 10.000 badkuipen vol met water en staat gelijk aan 50 jaar lang elke dag voor 5 minuten douchen.

This is the first geocache placed by the regional water authority hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard. In the year 1273 count Floris V registered the establishment of this water authority. Water authorities are the first democratic institutions in the Netherlands. They formed the landscape and culture of the country. Het hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard is the second oldest regional water authority in the Netherlands, after Rijnland.
You stand here at the pumping station Schilthuis. This pumping station is used to arrange the height of the water in this area. Do you know we can pump 1.300.000 litres water per minute from the Rotte to the Nieuwe Maas? That is more than 10.000 bathtubs filled with water and is equal to 50 years of 5 minute showers every day.
