Greatland Reviewer: Hello:

This cache page has been archived due to the lack of response to one or more prior Reviewer Note(s) about issue(s) with the cache and because the Cache Owner has not been online since May 2015. If the owner would like to have the cache unarchived, please contact me through my profile as soon as possible before another cache gets placed nearby.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page requires it to go through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

On the Causeway extending out from the Sitka Airport Runway. Not accessible by foot from the airport, access by water only, kayak or small skiff.
Cache is a round 1.5 quart rubbermaid container, wrapped in a black garbage bag to protect from elements. This position (N 57 02.812' W 135 22.889') is a small smooth rock beach where you can pull up a kayak or anchor a small skiff.

Do some research, or go to this website
(visit link) and read about the bunkers that are still here, and why they were built. Great history here. This makes for a good full day of exploration.
Cache is on the far side of a break in the trail that follows the causeway out towards the outer end. You'll know this break by the exposed sewer and water lines that were buried under the causeway trail are exposed.
There is some foot traffic of other visitors in the summer, and on nice days year round. Use some discretion when other folks are in the vicinity.

For out of town cachers, there are at least two venders in town who rent kayaks and skiffs, and can give local information, and even do guided kayak trips to the Causeway. Check with the Sitka Convention and Visitor's Bureau. (visit link)
