Launch of Alaska's first official GeoTrail!
Join GeocacheAlaska! and the Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area for a pre-launch event in Girdwood.
- Social gathering will start at 10am
- BBQ lunch will start at 11am
- GeoTrail Caches are expected to publish between Noon and 1pm
The KMTA GeoTrail has 23 cache locations including 16 traditional caches, 4 multi-caches, 2 field puzzles, and an Earthcache. One of the puzzles is the bonus cache at the end of a new 5-stage Adventure Lab in Seward. The cache locations approximate the locations from the official KMTA Field Guide, which follows the history of the KMTA region from Girdwood to Hope to Cooper Landing to Seward.
We'll have printed passports available to pickup at the event. There will also be a Redemption event the next night in Anchorage where you can present your completed passport and purchase your commemorative geocoin if you are able to find and log at least 20 of the 23 cache locations.
The official KMTA GeoTrail pathtags will be available for purchase at this event, along with any other items in the GeocacheAlaska! Event Store.
NOTE! If you're planning to head out on the GeoTrail from this event, be sure that you're prepared. You'll need a GPS device capable of off-line caches or lists. Much of the region of this GeoTrail is outside of cell service. Make sure you're fueled up for the trip. You'll travel approximately 150 miles to get from one end of the GeoTrail to the other, which includes side quests to both Hope and Cooper Landing as you make your way to Seward.
And even if you're not going to hit the GeoTrail today, feel free to join us for a fun event and some BBQ lunch! Then you can watch all the FTF hunters dash off at full speed when the caches start to publish!
