Out and back trails are fine, but loops are so much more fun! Loop trails are rarity in Alaska so I always try to take advantage. The summer version of this loop is a work in progress, but on the day of cache placement the winter trail was beautifully groomed for cross country skiing, fat tire biking, and walking…boy, it was in great shape! The full loop around Rhein lake is about 3.5 miles, and when the work on the summer trail is done it should be great too!
Skis, snow shoes, fat tire bikes, muck boots, tennis shoes, bug spray, bear spray, sun screen, rain gear- pick your tool of the trade!
In summer, park at the Rhein Lake pullout. The trail is off the driveway to the cabin on your left. In winter park at the winter trailhead and ski, walk, fat bike, or snow machine to the Rhein lake trail. Or you can wind your way along the ski trails. Link to trail map
Note- I only had my phone for coordinates (I was packing light for backpacking). I did my best with that limited tool...please see the hint and spoiler photo if you get stuck! Also, please feel free to let me know if they are off.

Cache is placed in compliance with Alaska State Parks permit 21-KA-4267.
