Growing up we called these cute little critters a stinkkatze (nobody in the family knows why) or a polecat. My grandfather told me one time they were called polecats because they would climb to the top of light poles, which as a kid that made perfect sense to me. I can imagine the German POWs encountering one here at the camp and referring to them as a stinkkatze or other colorful things if they happened to get sprayed by one. Hopefully you will not encounter one on your visit. We named this one Pinky the Stinky. As you make the journey to Pinky's home you will pass many foundations from the camp buildings which will give you an idea of how big the camp was.
I encourage you to visit the visitor's center if they are olpen during your visit. The cache is accessible even if the vistor's center is closed.
