Geocache Description:


Venture off-trail in the Natural Play Area of Highbanks Metro Park to find this egg-cellent cache. An unoccupied nest is an easy target for hungry Ohio wildlife. Opossums, raccoons, skunks, snakes, weasels, mink, squirrels, and even other birds will all steal and crack open an egg when given the chance. Today, so will you.

Half of all bird species are cavity nesters, meaning they rely upon holes in structures to nest in. Nesting in a cavity is a smart way to raise a family as it’s typically weatherproof, retains more heat and provides protection from predators. Competition is so fierce for existing tree cavities, that species like bluebirds, tree swallows and purple martins will routinely use man-made nest boxes to build their nests in
