This cache Welcomes you to the City of Redding, Ca. and just steps away to the south and behind a yellow gate, you will find a trail that follows the first route of Historic Old Hwy 99 that meets back up with N. Market St. at the bottom of the hill to the south, you can then drive on Old Hwy 99 if you turn right on Benton Dr., to the Sacramento River, where the Diestelhorst pedestrian Bridge that was once part of Historic Old Hwy 99 as well. From the yellow gate, if you look east across N. Market Street you will see a building on the corner that once was a car wash. Historic Old Hwy 99 continued acrss what is now N. Market and threw the car wash parking lot down to Water Works Park where it would continue North up what is now N. Boulder Dr., where you can still see the original roadway.
The original Hwy 99 was rerouted in 1936, due to increase traffic and the construction of Shasta Dam. Today the rerouted Hwy 99 is known as N. Market St. or Miracle Mile and in the early to mid 1960's I-5 was built and killed Hwy 99.
Watch out for Muggles, they are everywhere.
