Il Ponte Rosso, a metà canale, fu costruito in legno nel 1756, appena ultimata la costruzione del canale. Era allora l'unico ponte esistente, in quanto gli altri ponti vennero costruiti in epoca successiva. Fu rifatto ampliandolo una decina d'anni dopo e rifatto ancora, questa volta in ferro, nel 1832. Sul Ponte Rosso si trova la statua dello scrittore irlandese James Joyce, in ricordo della sua permanenza in città. Ai quattro estremi del ponte sono posizionati sui parapetti quattro fanali che precedentemente ornavano la statua della dedizione di Trieste all'Austria che si trovava un tempo in piazza Libertà, dinanzi alla stazione ferroviaria. La statua fu inaugurata nel 1889 e rimossa nel 1919.
The Red Bridge, halfway across the canal, was built of wood in 1756, as soon as the construction of the canal was completed. It was then the only existing bridge, as the other bridges were built at a later date. It was rebuilt by widening it about ten years later and rebuilt again, this time in iron, in 1832. On the Red Bridge stands a statue of the Irish writer James Joyce, in memory of his stay in the city. At the four ends of the bridge, four lanterns are placed on the parapets, which previously adorned the statue of Trieste's dedication to Austria that once stood in Piazza Libertà, in front of the railway station. The statue was inaugurated in 1889 and removed in 1919.
