Mežtaka, izejot cauri trauksmanajai Rīgai nonāk tās galējā austrumu malā, kur atrodas Berģu apkaime. Šī ir stratēģiska vieta, caur kuru ir vijušies nozīmīgi ceļi pat pirms Rīgas dibināšanas un krustnešu ienākšanas Latvijā. Tālajā 19.gs, kad tika būvēts Vidzemes ceļš, katram bija jādod sava artava ceļa būvniecībai. Apkārt esošajām saimniecībām bija jāpalīdz ar viena darbinieka un zirgu pajūga sagādāšanu. Tagad šeit atrodas A2, jeb tautā sauktā Siguldas šoseja, kas mainot nosaukumus un kļūstot par Rīgas centrālo ielu aizved pat līdz pašai Rīgas sirdij - Brīvības piemineklim. Netālu no turienes var atrast arī Zviedru vārtus, kas ir vieni no Rīgas vēsturiskajiem vārtiem. Rīgai izplešoties un savā paspārnē ņemot aizvien jaunus un jaunus reģionus, pilsētas metaforiskie vārti ir pārcēlušies uz Berģiem.

Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmā no Vecrīgas līdz Igaunijas robežai, kurš izstrādāts ar Eiropas Reģionālās attīstības fonda Centrālā Baltijas jūras reģiona pārrobežu sadarbības programmas 2014.–2020. gadam finansiālu atbalstu, izvietoti 45 slēpņi. Iesakām apvienot slēpņu meklēšanu ar pastaigu pa kādu no 15 ainaviskajiem Mežtakas Ziemeļu daļas posmiem.

Description of the place:
The forest trail, passing through the bustling Riga, reaches its extreme eastern edge, where the Berģi neighborhood is located. This is a strategic place through which important roads have passed even before the founding of Riga and the arrival of the Crusaders in Latvia. Back in the 19th century, when the Vidzeme road was being built, everyone had to give their part in the construction of the road. The surrounding farms had to help by providing one worker and a horse-drawn carriage. Now here is the A2, or Sigulda highway as it is popularly called, which, by changing its name and becoming the central street of Riga, leads to the very heart of Riga - the Freedom Monument. Not far from there, you can also find the Swedish Gate, which is one of the historical gates of Riga. As Riga expanded and took new and new regions under its wing, the metaphorical gate of the city moved to Bergi.

The geocache is part of the “FOREST TRAIL” series of geocaches. The Forest Trail is a part of the European long-distance hiking route E11 in the Baltic States, which runs through the most beautiful forests and national parks of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. In the northern part of the Forest Trail created with the financial support of the Transborder Cooperation Programme for 2014–2020 of the European Regional Development Fund for the Central Baltic Sea Region 45 geocaches have been deployed between the Old Riga and the Estonian border. We recommend combining the geocache search with a walk through one of the 15 landscape sections of the northern part of Northern part of the Forest Trail.
