This is one of three geocaches created by a group of K – Grade 3 students from Davis Bay Elementary NEST (Nature Education for Sustainable Todays and Tomorrows) in April 2023. Each geocache is based on a theme that they have studied over the past year. The prizes are handmade by students, and there is a FTF coin inside!
This geocache theme is: Salmon
Here are some facts that we know about salmon:
- Some species of salmon: pink, sockeye, chinook, coho, chum
- Salmon are born in rivers, streams, creeks; as adults, they live in the ocean
- The spawners (mature salmon) lay eggs in the same stream or river where they were born
- The spawning salmon die after laying their eggs
- The life cycle of salmon: Egg --> eyed egg --> alevin --> fry --> smolt --> juvenile --> adult --> spawner --> egg
This location is one of many nearby locations where these students learn and play in nature each year. Also, please check out our other geocaches at ts'ukw'um (Mission Point/Chapman Creek) and Smugglers Cove.
